Hugging a natural harbor, Alicante is the main city and port on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Passengers disembark in a sophisticated Mediterranean resort, with a restored old town and sandy beaches. The Romans who founded the place called it the “City of Light,” and it’s still a delightful, relaxing place to spend a day. The area known as Ayuntamiento is hopping with restaurants and tapas bars, and you’ll also find many cafes along the waterfront. Take in the views from the impressive Castillo de Santa Barbara fortress, or view works by Dali, Miro and Picasso at the Museo de Arte Siglo. The halls of an archaeological museum recount the eras of Alicante’s history.
