Tiny Antigua is just over 100 square miles in size, but this destination offers enough tropical energy and pristine beaches (365, to be exact) to rival any of its Caribbean neighbors. It’s an easygoing, uncrowded spot, too, with just over 70,000 residents. Another perk: brisk trade winds keep Antigua almost completely free of clouds, providing the island with the lowest annual rainfall in the eastern Caribbean. Beach vacations are rarely ruined here. Sail into St. John’s, Antigua’s primary cruise port, for shopping, seaside cafes and, of course, sugar-white sands fronting sparkling turquoise waves. St. John’s also is known as a cricket capital -- it’s easy to catch or join a match, often accompanied by calypso music or an oceanfront barbecue, thanks to a series of recreation spots along the beach.
