Home to Harvard and the “Cradle of Liberty” that fueled the American War of Independence, Boston is a historic hot spot with plenty to offer day visitors. The three-mile-long Freedom Trail is a favorite walking tour, offering up 16 points of interest; Paul Revere’s home and stops along his famous ride are featured along this red-brick path, as are former meeting halls of the country’s founding fathers. But this is a modern, cosmopolitan city with amenities beyond its centuries-old landmarks. Microbreweries, five-star restaurants and contemporary art museums populate downtown Boston. Sports are a top priority here, too, with championship baseball and football teams making their home in Boston. Sailing enthusiasts might station themselves along the shore during their time in the city; boat tours and seasonal regattas are favorite pastimes for Bostonians.
