Cartagena is one of Spain’s busiest commercial hubs. It has a fascinating history, founded more than 2,200 years ago by Hasdrubal, a Carthaginian leader. Imposing fortresses flank the harbor, and the old town houses the original Carthaginian castle and segments of the ancient city walls. New development around the harbor includes the unusual National Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
