The Irish capital has undergone quite a transformation in the last 10 years or so, with many contemporary buildings appearing on the cityscape and adding to the city’s historical and cultural appeal. Grafton Street is paradise for shoppers, and a stop at the historic Bewleys coffeehouse for some people-watching is a must. Dublin’s pubs are world-famous -- the oldest is the Brazen Head -- but the newer wine bars also attract crowds. Of course, Dublin is renowned for its literary heritage, and the works of Beckett, Joyce, Swift and Yeats are housed in the National Library. Many visitors make a point to stop at Trinity College to view the eighth-century Book of Kells, a magnificent illuminated manuscript.
