The longest and deepest fjord in the world, Sognefjord, cuts a path across western Norway to reach this pretty port of call. Flaam is a picturesque village nestled in a verdant river valley, framed by the snow-covered mountains and majestic waterfalls that dot much of this region. It provides easy access to some of the top attractions in the Fjordlands. One of the easiest ways to take in these sights is by riding the Flaam Railway. This train reaches heights up to 2,800 feet above sea level in less than 12 miles of travel, passing through more than a dozen tunnels carved into the living rock of the surrounding mountains. Hidden waterfalls and glassy Oppheim Lake are discovered on these excursions.
