Ko Samui is a gorgeous beach paradise of white sands, crystal-clear waters and palm forests. Extremely popular as a tourist resort these days, it also boasts its share of unique sights, such as the twin waterfalls known as Na Muang, or “purple,” so called for the color of the rocks they fall upon. Local coconut farmers have trained monkeys to climb the trunks of trees and pick their crops. Atop the ceremonial Dragon Steps at Wat Phra Yai, you will find the stunning Big Buddha statue. Another draw is the coral reef lining the shore of Ko Samui, making for fabulous diving.
