The tiny principality of Monaco is one of the world’s most fashionable addresses. Sleek mega-yachts rest in the harbor, and well-heeled folks play high-stakes games in the famous Grand Casino. There are several casinos in Monaco, but the ritzy Grand is the most famous; it has a strict dress code and requires gamblers to show passports. It’s flanked by the swanky Cafe de Paris and Hotel de Paris.

There are three main parts to Monaco, all walkable from the harbor. They are the appealing old town, Monaco Ville; the glitzier new town, Monte Carlo; and the business district, La Condamine. Prince Rainier III put glamorous Monaco in the spotlight when he married Hollywood star Grace Kelly in 1955; he and his wife are now buried side by side in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco Ville. You can also tour some of the lavish rooms of the royal residence, known as the Prince’s Palace.
