New Providence Island is the most populous spot in the Bahamas and home to their capital, Nassau. Historic sites, including 18th-century forts, the National Art Gallery and the pink Bahamian Parliament buildings, are popular sites here. Visitors enjoy city conveniences and a British colonial feel, but still are treated to the tropical touches that make the Bahamas such a sought-after vacation spot -- strong surf, spotless sand and warm sun. Rum, like the Caribbean sun above, is a warming pursuit for visitors and available at a number of regional distilleries. Just north of Nassau, the aptly named Paradise Island awaits. Though this magic isle is just five miles long and one mile wide, tony hotels, world-class casinos, private zoos and waterparks are available for a day of diversions.
