The Big Easy is recovering from a recent bout of hurricane trouble, but the city still stands as one of the most fascinating spots in the United States. The charm of the historic French Quarter remains, offering antebellum mansions draped in Spanish moss; Jackson Square, a favorite meeting spot in the Quarter, plays host to the Saint Louis Cathedral and other scenic lures. A mix of international influences -- African, French and Latino, to name a few -- also gives New Orleans an edge, with a host of cuisine, music and multicultural festivals in the offing for visitors. But no trip to New Orleans would be complete without a jaunt down Bourbon Street. Though the city’s favorite bar district is especially crowded in February as Fat Tuesday looms, other lures -- jazz joints, blues halls and Cajun and Creole cuisine -- cater to tourists between holidays.
