The city of Penang is highly regarded among tourists for its National Museum, a richly designed environment with grand exhibits that showcase the fascinatingly diverse heritage of Malaysia. Many cultures have made their marks on this land throughout history, from the Malay natives themselves, to the Chinese, Indian, British and even Americans. The largest city on Penang, Georgetown, represents these communities and many others with its wide variety of shopping, dining and sightseeing experiences. Two temples are among the best sights in the area: the Kek Lok Si, the country’s largest Buddhist shrine with a seven-story pagoda, and the Snake Temple, which is full of poisonous snakes lulled to sleep by the temple’s incense.
